Finding an Inspiring Space

This week I have been working from Spacecubed. It's this amazing co-working space built for entrepreneurs and honestly just being here surrounded by other people who are following their passion has been inspirational.

This morning I listened to a presentation by Simply Wall St and then I sat down with Ranjeev and discussed his various business ventures which ranged from stock photos to health supplements.

And I don't know who left this note or if I was the intended recipient but seriously how great are they.

What does this have to do with hooping? I guess not a lot but have you thought about your hoop environment the same way you think about your work environment?

Do you like it quiet, do you like it loud?
Do you want to be alone or do you want an audience?
Are you looking for a team or would you prefer to be on your own?

I've hooped in hundreds of different environments. On a stage shaped like a ship in front of thousand, in my backyard quietly on my own. At the beach, in the park, on my coffee table, in a mirrored dance studio, in front of the TV. With friends, with family, with strangers. In my bedroom with the music on full! With my amazing students at HoopFit of course.

They all make me feel different and some work for certain moods and not others. But what's your inspiring space?

Finding a New Years Resolution

Last years resolution was to 'Bite off way more than you can chew, then chew away!' This is the post I wrote about it last year here. Think I actually thought about that quote at least once a week for the entire year, it was perfect for 2014.

'Bite off way more than you can chew, then chew away!'

I honestly don't know how I could possible top the past 2 years. 2013 was transformational, I discovered hooping, performing, myself. 2014 was all about cementing those themes in my life, becoming a strong business woman too.

2015 honestly stresses me out. My goals are bigger than they have ever been in my entire life and unlike Uni or CIMA, there are no guidelines. No one is going to tell me what comes first, what to study, when the assignments are due. I'm on my own, I have to have discipline to do the important things, not just the fun things. And to have vision.... Actually maybe that is it. I need vision and discipline.

2015 is going to be a big year, I know it is. I'm honestly expecting to work harder than I ever have before. I'm prepared for it, the last 2 years have given me more confidence in myself that any other time in my life.

I know goals are meant to be specific and measure able but those kinds of new years resolutions have never worked for me. I like it to be more of a mission statement, something inspirational that I can use to motivate myself in almost any situation so 'Have Vision. Have Discipline' That's my 2015 resolution.

'Have Vision. Have Discipline.'

Feed Box Market Top 5

We had such an amazing time at Feed Box Market this week, breaking hoops, teaching our neighbours tricks and generally causing all sorts of chaos.

Straight after HoopFit, I did a bit of a Superman/Clark Kent move and transformed myself into Miss B B Hoops!!

We had glitter hoops and performances. It was so much fun teaching everyone to hoop and we got a chance to check out some of the stalls.

Our Top 5 Stalls

1. Higher Ground
Number one because let's be honest if there isn't good coffee, what's the point?

2. No Toast
We've already demolished a couple of packets of this amazing granola at our place. Mum started putting it on salad too!!

3. Sally's Lane
At first I wasn't sure why I would want non alcoholic grape juice, and then I tried it! I've stocked up every week since the markets started.

4. Guinea Grove Farm
Try the chilli oil.

5. Maggie's Treats
Because one time I had a little too much 'grape juice' the night before and their bacon and egg roll saved my life. Enough said!

Come visit us next week! We'll have hoops for sale and performances by Miss B B Hoops!!

Lets Own Our Hoop Injuries

Someone said to me once 'If you are not dropping the hoop or hitting yourself in the face you are not trying hard enough'. Now ordinarily I avoid pain at all costs but when it comes to hooping I don't even seem to notice until I stop.

The thing with hooping is, it's addictive but should you really be hooping on bruised limbs. Of course not! I've watched people take socks off and put them over bruised hands, so they could keep hooping. I've had clients turn up to class after using those awful weighted hoops with huge HUGE bruises. Please stop!

This is my test, if a kid came home from school with that bruise would you (A) think well they must have had a fun day, or (B) Call the school and demand to know what happened!

If the answer is (B) the bruise is so big you'd be worried about the child's safety then put that hoop down or practice a different exercise using a different part of the body.

Your body will toughen up eventually and you'll become more skilled at using the hoop. There will be less bruising. But if you are suffering from any of the below, firstly check the weight of the hoop, is it appropriate for that particular exercise?

Common Hoop Injuries

HoopHip - These are the bruises that occur when the hoop spins around the hips instead of your tummy. They are two striped down those hip bones. Try a lighter hoop and practice keeping the hoop up around the belly button, that way your activating your core too.

HoopForearm - These bruises often get the most attention because they really look a lot like a hand mark. You normally get one long bruise and several little ones that look like finger tips a. If you are already using a light hoop then it could be the speed with which you are spinning your hoop, slow it down for a bit.
